Geoff is a microbial ecologist with a focus on plant microbiome formation and function. His lab uses field, microcosm, and computational approaches to explore the long-distance movement of microbes and the processes that determine how they form communities when they meet a potential host plant. His lab is also interested in using microbiome transplantations to help restore and conserve threatened habitats and is using AI modeling to determine what biotic processes shape the success of these transplanted microbes. Geoff also has a keen interest in marine fungi and is using public data to uncover their diversity and distribution globally.
